Most small businesses don't need more tech. They need the right tech.

I work with small businesses and tradespeople who know something could run smoother but aren't sure where to start. The market's full of apps, AI tools and software all shouting for attention. It's hard to know what's worth your time.

That's where I come in. I spend time understanding how you actually work, day to day. Then I'm straight with you. Sometimes the answer is a tool that already exists. Sometimes it's something built just for you. Sometimes it's a small change that costs nothing at all.

You won't get jargon or a hard sell. You'll get plain English, honest advice and real results.

There's no fixed menu here. Whether it's mapping out a process that's quietly costing you time, picking the right tool for a job, or automating the bits of the week that eat your hours, the starting point is always the same. What's slowing you down, and what's the simplest way to fix it?

Some jobs are bigger. Building a custom tool when nothing off the shelf quite fits. Sorting a website that actually works for you. Setting up an AI receptionist so you stop missing calls while you're busy with a customer. I can take those on too, start to finish.

You don't need to know what you need before you get in touch. That's my job. We start with a conversation, in plain English, and work out where I can actually help. No tech talk to confuse you, and no pressure to take on more than you came for.

I'm Shaun. I started GSD Lab to cut through the noise.

I'm based in Burnley and I work with businesses across Lancashire and beyond. GSD stands for Get Stuff Done, and that's the whole idea. Less talking about technology, more using it to make your day easier.

A lot of consultancies are better at writing reports than actually changing anything. That's not how I work. I'm here to sort the problem, not just describe it.

I'm not a big agency and I don't want to be. You deal with me directly. I keep things straightforward, I tell you what I'd do if it were my own business, and I won't sell you something you don't need.

If technology makes you a bit nervous, that's completely fine. Most of my clients felt the same before we started. The job is to make it simple.

A full job system for a heating and plumbing firm. Quotes go out by email with options the customer taps to choose. Accepted quotes turn into invoices. Payments come in by bank transfer or direct debit without any chasing. The whole thing runs from a phone, between jobs.

Campervan conversions

Concept Vehicle Conversions

Campervan converters in Burnley. Their system takes a finished van from photos to a polished sales listing in minutes. Photos get tidied up automatically, the listing gets written and published, and a weekly report lands in their inbox so they know what's working.

The team side runs on a Staff Hub built just for them. Holiday booking, approvals, a wallchart of who's off and proper reports, all in one place instead of paying for two subscription apps.

This is what I mean by an end-to-end system for tradespeople. From first enquiry to paid invoice, one tidy setup, built around how you already work. If you're drowning in quotes, paperwork and chasing payments, that's fixable.

Questions I get a lot.

What kind of businesses do you work with?

Small businesses and tradespeople, mostly around Burnley and Lancashire. Builders, salons, shops, small firms with a handful of staff. If you're spending your evenings on paperwork that a better setup could handle, you're exactly who I built this for. I work further afield too, most of it can be done remotely.

Do I need to know what I need before I get in touch?

No. That's my job. You tell me what's slowing you down or eating your time. I'll work out whether the answer is a tool that already exists, a small automation or a change to how you work. You don't need to arrive with a plan.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the job, but you'll always know the price before we start. An audit is a fixed fee. Bigger builds are quoted up front. No surprises on the invoice and no meter quietly running.

I'm not techy. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Most of my clients felt the same before we started. Everything gets explained in plain English and nothing gets handed over until you're comfortable using it.

Can you help with AI?

Yes, and I'll be honest about where it's worth it. Sometimes AI genuinely saves hours, like a receptionist that answers calls you'd otherwise miss. Sometimes a simple process fix beats any clever tool. I'll tell you which is which.

Can you build a complete system for my trade business?

Yes, that's become a bit of a speciality. Quotes, invoices, payments, job photos, sales listings, whatever your week actually involves. I've built full end-to-end systems for a heating and plumbing firm and a campervan converter, and each one is shaped around how that business already works. Not the other way round.
